Legal requirements of a marriage ceremony in Scotland
You’ll both need to complete and send a Marriage Notice form to the registrar in the area you will be married in. You should do this between three months and one month before your wedding date.
Your marriage must be conducted by a registrar or by a celebrant who has been approved and in the presence of two witnesses aged 16 or over.
If you’re not from the UK, you also need to complete and return a declaration of status by Non-UK Nationals form.
If you live outside of the UK you need to get a certificate from your country to say there's no reason why you cannot be married. This needs to be given along with your marriage notice to the registrar at least 29 days before the wedding.
Newly eloped couple enjoy a romantic kiss under a stunning sunset at Corsewall Lighthouse near Stranraer. Scotland
Whether you are a local couple to the Dumfries and Galloway, a couple from another part of Scotland or perhaps from somewhere in another part of the UK or you are considering traveling from another country to Scotland to elope, I absolutely love photographing these smaller intimate weddings. I've had the great pleasure of meeting and photographing many fantastic couples who have decided that a small wedding with no guests or only a very small group, usually two or four who travel with them from another country to tie the knot here in Dumfries and Galloway.
I have met and photographed some wonderful people from all around the world, Italy, Germany, China, North America, Austria, who chose Dumfries and Galloway as their elopement destination, often very professional people who don't want a fuss back home and sometimes have not even told their parents and used pictures I've taken of them to notify them the following morning.
I can't promise a sunset every evening in Scotland as the weather has a well known tendency to do it's own thing even to the dismay of local people sometimes. I am happy to photograph couples in all weather conditions (Safely of course!).
If you require your photographs to be edited within 24hours and the USB pen drive containing your photographs brought back to you as you leave your accommodation here in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland to fly home the following day, this can be arranged for a fee but you must request this during the process of booking.
Some newly married couples who elope to Dumfries and Galloway will use this beautiful area as their starting point to travel up the west coast of Scotland and around the northern coast then back down the east coast of Scotland.
